Although there are numerous communities throughout the county, many people are familiar with the town of Midlothian within the county. The Village of Midlothian, was named for early 18th century coal mining enterprises. Once coal mining declined in the early 20th century, Midlothian became an affordable residential area. It is also home to well- known neighborhoods such as Salisbury, a golf course community, Woodlake near the Swift Creek reservoir and Hallsley which was named the 2017 Best Master Planned Community by the National Association of Home Builders.

Moseley is another unincorporated area within the northwestern portion of the county. It has become a popular place for homebuyers seeking new construction. The area has experienced significant growth and development in recent years with numerous residential communities including Magnolia Green and Harpers Mill. This location is also a short distance to the Metro Richmond Zoo, “Lions, tigers and bears. Oh my!”

Another well-known area of Chesterfield includes Bon Air, a charming area with a rich history located just 8 miles from downtown Richmond. It is known for its tree lined streets, historic Victorian homes and spacious lots with mature landscaping.

Further southwest you will find the Highlands, a golf course community with larger lots and Chesdin Landing, a lakefront subdivision along with many others. Pocahontas State Park is a quick drive from these neighborhoods. The park spans over 7,800 acres and is the largest state park in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It offers a wide range of outdoor activities including a seasonal water park, picnic areas, playgrounds, exhibits, boating, fishing, swimming and trails for hikers, bikers and equestrians! If you like to camp, this is also a great place to go.
